Aim: To introduce the participants to concepts of Aeromodelling, learning which they will be able to design their own planes. This course is designed to kindle interest in students for taking up Aeromodelling as one of their co-curricular activities.

Duration: Course comprises 22 sessions (60mins each) of both theoretical as well as activity-based sessions along with flying sessions.

Topics Covered: The primary aim of the course is to create awareness among the students about the Fundamentals behind flying objects. The course also aims at addressing some of the basic concepts in this subject and makes an attempt to satisfy the curiosity of the young minds.

4 DAYS WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed in order to gain knowledge about the fundamentals of aeromodelling, aerodynamics, and aircraft through different scaled-down models or gliders

1. Static Model Workshop

Description : - In this workshop, participants will be introduced to aeronautics, its importance, and methods of folding paper to make a paper plane, different types of planes, parts of aircraft, the importance of static models, scaling of a model, and build few paper planes, and static models.

Duration - 4 days

Takeaway Model :- Few paper planes and a static model.

Course benefit: - Participants will be exposed to the types of simple gliding Paper planes and a static model.

Learning Outcom - Concept of scaled-down models, Importance of scaled model, skills of making a paper plane, participants will gain knowledge towards basic aeronautics, parts of aircraft, assembly of a static model, the shape of the wing and fuselage of the model.

2. Chuck Glider Workshop

Description :- In this workshop, participants will be introduced to aeronautics, Concepts of flying, the importance, and methods of folding paper to make a paper plane, different types of planes, parts of aircraft.Forces acting on the plane, balancing of the glider and flying the same.

Duration - 4 Days

Course benefit:- Participants will be exposed to the types of simple static Paper planes, and a solid elliptical wing glider.

Learning Outcome - Concept of flying, Developing skills by making a paper plane, participants will gain knowledge towards basic aeronautics, and flying of the glider, parts of the aircraft, Center of Gravity, center of pressure.

1 - WEEK WORKSHOP

These workshops are designed to put the knowledge about gliders into practice by constructing gliders and learn the techniques of flying

1. Glider Making Workshop

Description : Participants will be introduced to the History of aeromodelling and aeronautics, Types of Planes, Parts of an aircraft, forces acting on an aircraft, Control surfaces.

Hands-on- Experience in the making and Constructing a glider with 75cm wingspan and a Solid Fuselage

Duration - 7 hours.

Learning Outcome Principals of an aircraft, center of gravity and pressure Construction and flying method of a glider, forces acting on aircraft, types of wings, how lift is generated, the structure of a plane.

2. Construct a Hollow Wing Model

Description :- Introduction to aeromodelling, parts, and forces of an aircraft, different wing structures, basic physics behind the flying. The participant will be constructing a 110 cm hollow wing glider and learn to fly the same.

Duration - 7 hours.

Hands-on :- Making of a 110cm glider with the hollow fuselage.

Learning Outcome - Different wing structures, Flying techniques, introduction to aeromodelling, and aviation, types of control surfaces, calculations of the wing to fuselage ratio, aerofoils, its types, and fabrication.

Takeaway Model :- 110 cm Hollow Wing Glider.

3. Tow Line model (Advance Level)

Description :- Introduction to aeromodelling, parts, and forces of an aircraft, different wing structures, basic physics behind the flying, importance, and applications of a tow line glider and its usage and flying. The participant will construct a 150cm tow line glider and test flying

Duration - 7 hours.

Hands-on : Making of a 150cm glider with the hollow fuselage.

Learning Outcome - Different types of aircraft, the launching of a glider, different types of flying techniques, wing types, fabrication of wings, ratio and calculations

1 - WEEK WORKSHOP (2 HOURS PER DAY)

These workshops are designed to imbibe knowledge about powered aircraft and its construction,

1. Control line model

Description :- Description- Introduction of Aeromodelling, history of aeronautics & Control line, Parts of an aircraft, forces acting on an aircraft, control Surfaces, avionics, Simple electronics to control the planes, propellers, and their shapes.

Duration - 14 hours.

Hands-on :- Construction of a control line model, safe ways to handle electronics, and flying of a model.

Learning Outcome - Control line techniques, Manoeuvring skills, the technique to choose electronics for the model like propellers, batteries, etc., parts of aircraft.

Takeaway Model :- Low wing Control Line Model

2. Slow Powered Glider (Sun Bird)

Description :- The participant will be exposed to RC gliders, its working and will be constructing a Sunbird model after gaining the knowledge of aeromodelling, history of aircraft, and construction techniques

Duration - 14 hours.

Hands-on :- Constructruction of a Sunbird Model

Learning Outcome - Participants will gain knowledge on RC gliders, it’s flying, construction of gliders. electronics parts of a glider, flying of the model, calculations towards building a glider, ailerons, flaps, forces.

3. Drone building Workshop

Description :- Aerodynamics, CG Balance, mechanics of flying, propellers selection, Blade angle, controlling methods, electronics, controlling and build a quadcopter, its importance, and applications

Duration - 14 hours.

Hands-on :- Constructruction of a Quadcopter

Learning Outcome - The participant will get knowledge on drone’s parts, its use, and flying techniques, Remote control techniques for the drone.
